| Name: | Kyle Rodriguez |
|---|
Codename: Kysyn
Age: 21
B day: May 27 1983
Face: Victor Webster
Powers:
Kyle can induce and control synesthesia in others while remaining unaffected himself.
He makes one stimulus, maybe the snapping of his fingers, affect another person by making them see blinding lights, taste cookies, or smell a noxious odor. From training at the Westchester Institute for this past year, his powers have grown to include pain and temperature in the sensations he can pair. So that means, by having a person look at a colored wall, they'll feel cold or heat. Or, by them hearing a certain sound (an alarm clock ring), they'll experience physical pain. Of course, he has to concentrate on his abilities to continue to generate the sensation, so if he leaves the wall or if someone interrupts a line of sight, it's over.
Personality:
Kyle is generally introverted, this stems from the fact that because of his powers, he doesn’t care for a lot of stimulus (lots of people talking, loud music, etc). He’s an intelligent guy and was beginning to study biology in college. He tries to be optimistic, but usually ends up as sounding cynical and sarcastic. He gets along well with most people; he just can’t handle intense personalities. Some of his strengths include tasks involving spatial perception, communication, and having the ability to look at a situation from all different angles. He’s considered by his friends’ back home to be a reliable, though reluctant leader. As for weaknesses, Kyle is horrible at mathematics, fears heights, and can be manipulative when called upon.
History:
Born and raised in Tampa, Fl, Kyle’s lived most of his life with his parents and older sister. His father was born in Bogota, Columbia and his mother was born in Tampa. They all get along pretty well, none of the usual "You're a mutant, get out of our house!". Kyle’s powers first manifested during a fight with his sister. While they were yelling at each other, his sister Sophia began to complain about seeing red everywhere, she could barely think. Kyle stopped screaming and Sophia’s vision went back to normal. Later on, Kyle remembered thinking how he wanted his sister to get lost in her own anger. This was back when he was 14. Now at 20, Kyle has learned to have a bit more control over his abilities, and can use them not just when he’s angry.
Some notable stories about Kyle’s past include one time in high school with his first boyfriend. When they first kissed, Kyle lost control over his powers and flooded his boyfriend with a sensory onslaught. The event left his ex unconscious. Upon waking he told Kyle a bit of what he experienced, rainbow hued lights all around him, a scent of vanilla-ocean, and soft violin notes, some of Kyle’s favorite memories reduced to sensations. That was the first time Kyle told anyone about his gifts. Since then, Kyle’s been more open both about his mutant power and sexuality. He doesn't really talk about being gay unless it comes up. It's just not a big deal for him. Being a mutant, on the other hand is always a topic of conversation for him, and you could say he's a bit 'power-centered'. He'll talk about his abilities any chance he gets, both because he likes it, and because it makes him feel a little more important in the world. He's rather insecure in that sense.
With the year of training at the Institute behind him, Kyle has taken up an aide job at a rehabilitation clinic in the city, and works there a few days out of the week, but returns to the mansion to continue living, studying, and training. Though he hasn't told anyone at school yet, he uses his abilities on some of the more severly paralyzed patients to get them to start 'feeling' their legs or arms again. He's not sure why his powers work on them, as they do so only temporarily, but thinks that it has something to do with the nerves being stimulated in a psionic manner. Kyle's afraid to ask because then he might have to stop, and with no accidents so far, the moments of fleeting sensation encourage the patients more than any therapy.
